Google launched a Gemini app for Windows on September 10.
Alt + Space opens it over your current work. Google says the desktop app is available globally on Windows 10 and 11.
Some features, including Gemini Spark and Gemini Omni, require a Google AI subscription. Availability varies and those features are for adults 18+.
The part that interests me as a builder: less switching between a task and the place where you ask for help. Thats my take, not a claim that a desktop app automatically makes you productive.
A small experiment you could try:
For example, writing a clear description of your app. Start with the real problem it solves, who it helps, and what someone can actually do with it today.
Try: "Turn these notes into a two-sentence app description. Keep the concrete details. Dont add features, users or results that arent in my notes."
Did the wording become clearer? Did it quietly invent something? Keep the useful edits and remove the rest.
If you spent longer correcting the answer than writing the description yourself, thats useful information too. A convenient shortcut is only helpful when the result is worth keeping.
I havent tested this Windows release. This is an announcement summary and a suggested experiment, not a hands-on review.
